SmartBank’s rapid growth prompts hiring of in-house attorney

SEVIERVILLE, TN – SmartBank has announced the exciting addition of a new team member. Heather Morgan, originally from Winchester, TN, joined SmartBank as Vice President and Controller.
“We are fortunate to have been given the opportunity to hire such a bright and talented individual such as Heather Morgan,” said SmartBank President & CEO, Billy Carroll. “The extensive wealth of knowledge that Heather brings will support SmartBank in many facets of the organization. The growth we’ve seen thus far has allowed us to add someone of Heather’s caliber to our organization much sooner than originally planned. She brings a level of experience and vast array of knowledge that will become invaluable to our organization.” Heather’s duties will include planning the bank’s strategic growth initiatives for branching and potential future stock offerings.
Heather has a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Texas where she is also licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. She also graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2004.
Heather was previously with Miller & Martin, PLLC, as an attorney where she was instrumental in starting six state-chartered banks in Tennessee, including SmartBank. Heather also worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in both its Austin, TX, and New York City offices. At PricewaterhouseCoopers, Heather provided tax services for companies and partnerships of all sizes and equity compensation services for multi-national corporations.
Heather is married to Ned Morgan, a Knoxville native, also an attorney and currently in the MBA program at the University of Tennessee. They reside in Knoxville. Heather’s passions include financial literacy initiatives, public education and health. Her hobbies include running, reading non-fiction and tailgating at UT.
